Unusual email sent by Susan Rice

Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Lindsey Graham discovered a partially unclassified email sent by then-National Security Adviser Susan Rice to herself on January 20, 2017 at 12:15pm, President Trump’s inauguration day.

This email seemed to be used to document an Oval office meeting between Obama, James Comey, and Sally Yates on January 5, 2017.

On January 5, following a briefing by IC leadership on Russian hacking during the 2016 Presidential election, President Obama had a brief follow-on conversation with FBI Director Jim Comey and Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates in the Oval Office. Vice President Biden and I were also present.

Note that James Comey met then President-elect Trump the next day, and briefed him about the Steele dossier.

The email continued:

President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities “by the book”. The President stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book.

From a national security perspective, however, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia.

The President asked Comey to inform him if anything changes in the next few weeks that should affect how we share classified information with the incoming team. Comey said he would.

Rice’s involvement in the Russian story

On March 22, 2017, Rep. Devin Nunes said that communications involving Trump’s transition team were picked up by US intelligence agencies.

On the same day, Rice claimed she knew nothing about this.

In the first question, PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff asked Rice about Nunes’ disclosure that Trump “and the people around him may have been caught up in surveillance of foreign individuals and that their identities may have been disclosed. Do you know anything about this?” Woodruff added.

“I know nothing about this. I was surprised to see reports from Chairman Nunes on that count today,” Rice answered. The full first question is unedited in the video above.

However, she lied.

Bloomberg reported in April that Rice was actually behind the unmasking of the Trump team members. In middle September, CNN confirmed this.

And just to make the case more interesting, there’s now reports that Comey told lawmakers that the FBI agents who interviewed Flynn did not believe that Flynn had lied to them, or that any inaccuracies in his answers were intentional.
